We're having a baby!!

So we've known since March but just haven't posted it, I guess. My due date was November 21st, which meant I should have been 19 weeks and 4 days along for my ultrasound today. However, the baby measured more like 17 weeks and 5 days along. So they might change my due date to December 5th. They'll let me know next time. I'm okay with that. I wish they would have changed Brooklyn's due date because it was torture when she came 11 days "late." I bet my due date was just off. It also makes it less frustrating that I'm still feeling nauseated if I don't take Unisom before bed. I mean, I'm not as far along as I thought so it's not as abnormal to still be feeling sick.

I felt the baby moving really early. They say you feel a second baby earlier because you know what you're looking for, but I was feeling the baby move when (I thought) I was only 14-15 weeks! It turns out the placenta is attached to the back of my uterus. Brooklyn's was on the front so it acted as more of a barrier and I didn't feel it as well when she would kick me. So that's why I felt this baby so much earlier.

Everything looked perfect on the ultrasound. Because I wasn't quite as far along as they thought, the technician wasn't able to tell if the baby has a cleft palate or not. So I'll get another ultrasound in a few weeks to make sure that's okay. Anyway, without further delay...

It's a girl!!!

I was so surprised! I had wanted a girl, but had convinced myself that a little boy would be fun too so that I wouldn't be disappointed. I think I must have actually gotten excited about a boy because I was just a little bit sad when I heard it was a girl. But I think it will be great for Brooklyn to have a sister. I love having mine. And she can still use our pink stroller! =) Now the problem is coming up with a name. We had one for a boy, but are pretty much wide open for little girls. So any suggestions are greatly appreciated! I want it to mean something like Brooklyn's does. Or at least a middle name that means something. (Family, religion, etc.)

The first picture is of the baby looking right at us. She looks kind of scary because you can only see her bones. I like profile pictures much better, but we didn't get any of those this time. The second is her heartbeat and the third is the proof! =) We are so excited for another little girl in our family!!

P.S. Tawni, I'll race ya. =)

Carnival

We went to a little carnival they had in Provo today. We rode on a ride where we all got in a big strawberry and we could turn the wheel in the middle to make it spin around if we wanted to. Kind of like the teacups at Disneyland. I've been wanting to go to Disneyland and possibly take Brooklyn. I'm glad we tried this out first. She hated it. It only lasted about 2 minutes, but she clung to Jason the whole time and the second it stopped she exclaimed "Bye-bye!" Poor thing. Then we went and let Brooklyn play a game where she got to pick out a little rubber ducky from a pond and get whatever prize was indicated on the bottom. She ended up with a little (and I mean little) stuffed Nemo which she loved. "Fishy! Fishy!" We walked around looking at all the booths and the carnies all shouted at us to come play their games. I guess they thought they were being original, but every one of them promised we'd win a prize no matter what. I told Jason we didn't need any more junk. So we got some nachos and went home to swim. Fun, fun day!

The Girl Who Cried "Poop!"

Within the past couple of months, Brooklyn has learned to communicate quite effectively using both words and actions. One of our favorite consequences of this new skill was her ability to tell us when she needed a diaper change (or even when she was about to need one.) Then there was no guessing game or having to actually lift her up and smell her bum... ick! So the child was trained that if she told her mommy that she had pooped, her diaper would be changed. The lesson backfired. Since Brooklyn learned that saying "poop" or "stinky" would invariably lead to a little one-on-one time with Mom or Dad, she now says it CONSTANTLY!!! For example, right now she is in her crib because it is nap time. I guess she's not in the mood to take a nap because she is screaming "POO-POO!! STINKY!! EEEWWW!! STINKYYY!!!" I'm watching her on the monitor and she is even grabbing at her diaper and acting like it is absolutely filthy. I just changed her seconds before putting her down, so I don't believe her. I hardly ever believe her anymore because she just says it to get attention. So now, our little girl's skill is of no use to her. She still tells me when she's dirty, but she also tells me the same thing 100 times a day when she's NOT dirty. So since I'm not that gullible, she often ends up having to spend some extra time sitting in her own poop. Go Brooklyn.

UPDATE: Just so you don't think I'm a horrible mother, her diaper was clean when she woke up.

For those who were wondering...

Here's what the van looked like where the kite hit it. Those $2 kites, man, they can really do some damage! Guess we should have read the warning label.

We think all the passengers were okay, but we didn't stick around to find out. We wouldn't want Brooklyn to be tried as an adult.

(P.S. Just kidding! The kite bumped off the windshield; the driver didn't even slow down. I think the van was fine.)

Y Mountain

Brooklyn and I went to watch the sunset up by the Y tonight but there were so many clouds we didn’t get to see much. It's such a wonderful view anyway though. These pictures don't do it justice!

She really wanted me to take her picture by this rock.

The other day Brooklyn insisted on getting her socks and shoes on without getting any of her other clothes on. I guess this is what happens when you let a 19 month old choose her own clothes!

Summer Days

Well I am sick of that dang 70's day blog and Melody got blogged out so I figured I would update our blog. I graduated last month! Well, kind of anyways. I still have one online class to finish so my official graduation will be in August. My parents were going to be here for Justin's graduation so I figured I might as well walk at the same time.

I enjoyed living in Provo so much last summer because there are so many fun places to walk and the weather is beautiful (It will be in the 70's and 80's all this week!). I would put Brooklyn in the stroller and while Melody worked we would walk up by the temple, rock canyon, the Y, Provo river and sometimes just walk with nowhere in mind. It was great because Brooklyn would take a nap the entire time. It hasn't been quite the same this year because Brooklyn doesn't like to take naps in the stroller anymore. She likes to ask to get down the whole time by saying Daddy, Daddy, down, down, down a million times. We have still had some fun though.

Brooklyn getting ready for her modeling career

There is a big field across the street from our complex and Brooklyn likes going over there to play on the grass, blow bubbles, eat bark, you know... normal stuff.
Today I brought our kite over and thought Brooklyn would have a fun time with it.
And she did have fun...until she got distracted and let go of the kite! She let go of the kite shortly after the below picture. It flew onto Bulldog Blvd, hit a van and then flew over by the BYU football practice field. Surprisingly enough the kite was not damaged! However, the van was totaled.

I thought that Brooklyn had surely learned her lesson so I let her fly the kite again but this time we went further away from the street. What I didn't think about what the huge tree in front of us.

You guessed it, at about this point Brooklyn lets go of the kite again and it flew into this huge tree. Because it was so windy the kite kept bouncing around and I'm sure I looked quite ridiculous trying to grab the bobbing kite string hanging from the tree. Brooklyn looked at me with the most innocent face each time I saved our kite. I guess next time we need to bring Mom along so one of us can hold on to the string while to other one takes the picture.

We went to Toys'R'Us the other day and we thought it would be fun to let Brooklyn ride in the Flintstone's car.

She looks happy enough right? This is what happened.

video

I couldn't help laughing!

We know she's probably not quite old enough yet but Brooklyn likes to tell us when she has a poopy diaper so we bought her a potty. She likes to get a magazine and go sit on her potty after her bath (I wonder where she learned that? Dang that TV) and say, "Poop. Stinky. Poop. Potty". It will be so nice when she finally figures it out!

70's Day

For Customer Service Week at work, Jason was supposed to dress up according to a different theme each day. This was 70's day.

Check out them 'burns, baby!!
