Boxy Lady

Brooklyn has a problem. Since her rolling-over debut last week, she has become quite the little traveler. When she's in the right mood, she can go from one side of the room to the other in under a minute. Her problem is that she only knows how to roll one way. So, as soon as she gets to the other side of the room (or some other barricade in between) she is stuck! I spend a good portion of the day putting her down on the floor, then coming back a minute later when she's stuck, picking her up and putting her back on the other side of the room so she can do it again. Here she is stuck against her swing:

Brooklyn has a little doll that her Aunt Lisa gave her for Christmas. She loves her crinkly dress. The other day she was playing with the doll and inadvertently tossed her just out of reach. She reached out for the doll and started getting upset because she couldn't quite grab her. Then her face lit up like she had a bright idea. She must have thought "I can roll now!" because that is exactly what she did. She rolled the only way she knows how. And then when she reached out for the doll - it was even further away!!! She rolled the wrong direction. She was really confused and, of course, upset, but I thought it was quite humorous.

I was glad when Brooklyn learned how to roll around because I thought it meant she would be able to entertain herself a little more and I would have more time to get things done. With her only rolling in one direction, however, it seems that I have even less time! I did discover something that keeps her entertained, though. Her bedroom doubles as our office and I like to go in there in the morning and check email, read blogs, etc. I lay Brooklyn down on the floor to play for a little bit. One corner of the room is kind of our junkyard for things that need to be done. There is a box of cords, software, etc. that separates Brooklyn from the stuff. She loves that box!!! She rolls up against it and, instead of being annoyed by her partition, will spend a good 20 minutes or so just bouncing the flap up and down, scratching her fingernails on the side of it, kicking it and talking to it. Here is our boxy lady!

I can't believe how fast Brooklyn is moving around! My little guy is only 2 weeks younger and only kicks his legs. She's adorable!

lol on the rolling. At least you know she'll eventually figure out the other direction.

That is so adorable. I can't believe she is getting so big. She really would be better off if she could figure out how to scoot. :) All in due time though.
