Snacking, Peeing, Bathing and Friends!

Brooklyn was having a snack today. She nibbled on her graham cracker, looked at it, then showed it to me and said, "A car, Mommy! A car!!"

I can see it, can you? Then she thought it was super cool that I wanted to take a picture of her car so a few bites later she said, "A square, Mommy! A square!!" I didn't think that was quite as creative so I didn't pull out the camera until she said, "Mommy, can you take a picture of my square?"

We have been potty training around here. Brooklyn is doing really well. People think I am weird when I tell them that I have been dreading potty training since the day she was born. I just felt entirely incompetent. I've never taught anybody to control their bodily functions before. Nor have I had to clean up after somebody who didn't know how. Brooklyn has been ready for the potty for MONTHS, but I have kept putting it off. I kept telling Jason I was going to do it. I would let our diaper supply run out, thinking I would train her when they were gone. Then I'd buy a new pack of diapers. Finally, this past Monday Jason said that he would train her. He had the day off work and would spend the day one-on-one with Brooklyn while I took Addy out shopping so there'd be no distractons. He called me a little after 12 and said, "You can come home whenever - I'm done with this! She keeps peeing and pooping all over the place!!" He said the final straw was when he asked her if she had to go potty and she said "No, Daddy, I'm dry!" while the wet spot was growing bigger and bigger on her pants. So I told him to put her in a pull-up and we'd try again later. That pull-up never got wet. I don't know what happened exactly, but she's been going on the potty ever since. I've kept her in pull-ups just because we have a big box of them and then I don't have to worry about her peeing on my bed or something, but she has been perfect! Even in public places and overnight. She will also dump the pee from her potty into the toilet and flush without me even knowing she's gone. We didn't teach her that either. (I guess she saw us do it...) She does still have a few things to learn about the nature of urine, though. She was totally shocked that I shouted after I watched her dump her pee into the toilet and then put the potty on her head.

I think the long winter days of staying inside without a car are getting to Brooklyn. Several days ago I noticed her talking to an imaginary friend. I never said anything to her about it until Tuesday. I was listening to her talk to it. It lives in the palm of her hand and its name is "Pink Baby." She likes to tell it how cute it is and she will close her fingers over the top of it gently so it can sleep. Two days ago I asked her to let me see Pink Baby and she gladly showed me. Then I reached out to touch it and Brooklyn pulled away and said, "No! Don't touch her!!" I guess I went too far because I didn't see her talk to Pink Baby yesterday. Last night I asked her, "Brooklyn, where is Pink Baby today?" She said, "I lost her!" No worries, though, today she ran into the room with her hands cupped out to me saying, "Mommy, I found her! She came back!!"

I feel like I don't say enough about Adalyn. Or take enough pictures. She's just pretty boring compared to Brooklyn because she mostly just sleeps and eats. I have no idea how I wrote so much about her big sister at this age. Weren't you all bored out of your minds?? Anyway, she's a really good baby. She's so sweet. She spends a lot of time sleeping in her swing and when she wakes up to eat she just kind of grunts a little to let me know she's ready. I rarely hear her cry. She loves her binky and sucking on her hands. She loves to be held but doesn't insist on it. When we give her any kind of direct attention, she's all smiles. Her nicknames are "Chubbas" (short for Chubba-lubba) and "Munch" (short for Munchkin and alluding to her constant desire to eat).

Love, love, love her!!!
