Valentines

As Brooklyn gets older she seems to require a lot more attention and stimulation. It's no longer enough for her me to just hand her a rag while I'm cleaning and let her mimic me. She now wants me to be paying complete attention to her. I guess this is a sign that she is growing up and wants more social interaction. I used to take her out to do things (story time at the library, samples at Costco - her favorite - and so on), but we don't have a car during the day anymore so we're stuck at home. Anyway, I'm always at a loss about what to do with her. Lately, I've been making an effort to find some fun activities we can do together that will keep us both entertained. In honor of the upcoming holiday, we have made some cute Valentine's crafts. Keep in mind that I am not a naturally crafty or creative person, but these were simple and we had fun together.

Valentine door hangers. I got a pack of everything to make two of these at the dollar store. Brooklyn had a blast popping the hearts out of the foam sheet and putting glue on the backs. We used an Elmer's school glue stick. The glue goes on purple but dries clear and it's washable. It's perfect for her because she can see the glue going on and has fun with that but it's not messy at all.

Valentine's iPods. It's a pack of conversation hearts covered in paper with Hershey kiss ear buds. SO cute. We made a bunch of these. 3 for Brooklyn's cousins traveling to Washington, 2 for her two little friends next door, and 4 for Elder Joseph Bailey and Elder Cooper Allred and their companions in the MTC. Brooklyn colored and put stickers on them all by herself. I got this idea from familyfun.com. You can print out the screens and wheels there. Here's the link:

It's from Disney and has lots of fun ideas. In fact, they have a magazine. It was on sale the other day and I got a year subscription for only 3 bucks!! I'm excited for the first issue to come. You can also get the subscription at bestdealmagazines.com for $4.69. Well worth it, I think. I can't believe the difference in Brooklyn's behavior when we spend some one-on-one time together. After we made the door hangers this morning, she came and climbed on my lap and just kept kissing my cheek and saying "I love you, Mom" over and over. So sweet. And she's a lot more patient with me doing the things I need to do when I have already put in some time with her.

In other news, our closet finally succombed to the pull of gravity:

Whoever installed the organizer didn't drill it into the studs. The whole thing came crashing down the other night and scared us half to death. Luckily, Jason's dad was here visiting and he helped Jason put it back up. What's funny is that the other side had come down several months ago when my dad was here visiting and he helped put it back up at that time. I consider this divine intervention because if they hadn't been here, I would have had to be the one to help and we all know what a disaster that would have been! So a big THANK YOU to our awesome fathers!!

That is awesome! I would have been scared out of my mind! We dont live in the "best" neighborhood. Cop helicopters are all over the place and drug rehab centers are within walking distance...etc. So one night I heard a loud bang on my window and our neighbors had their house broke into and they fought the intruder until the cops came. So........now that you know the background...my reaction to the bang on my window was I grabbed my glock and ran outside. When I got around the side of the house, there was a cat sitting there looking at me. I guess it jumped way up to get to the window sill and hit its face? Which made the loud thud on our window.

Those are really cute valentines. That is one thing I didn't do with both kids this year. Abagail and I made valentines together and I thought Jackson would in preschool, but he didn't. Oh well we made a heart wreath for FHE that should count right? Jackson is really into games right now. Some days that is all I feel like I do (especially Sundays). I got quite a few cheap games at Goodwill. Also, have you heard of starfall.com? Both Jackson and Abagail like that site. Lashelle

Melody - your crafts with Brooklyn look so fun. I love getting ideas from my Family Fun magazine. I also bought a book called Mommy and Me from Amazon for around .59 cents. It was used, but it's the best book. It gives you ideas for each month. I've noticed with both girls that they need some one on one attention - crafting, reading books, doing a puzzle, coloring, playing with their toys - every afternoon. Good luck with continuing to come up with fun ideas. It really does make you both happier with each other.
